Vineyard notes

Fox Hill vineyard is owned by Lowell Stone who has concentrated his efforts in growing only Italian and Portugese varietals. We began making Sangiovese from this vineyard and shortly thereafter began to make Barbera.

Production notes

Barbera is a grape that is indigenous to the Piedmonte region of Italy. There as well as here, the typical characteristic of the wine is high acidity (look at the above harvest values) and deep color. The principal winemaking task is to reduce the acidity which can be done by introducing malolactic fermentation. Even so, the wine retains a higher level than acidity than other varietals. Pair this wine with rich sauces containing cream and/or animal fat such as short ribs of beef. The acidity cleanses the palate.
