Vineyard notes:
The 2002 vintage is a blend of 65% Ravano Vineyard and 35% Elizabeth
Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. Ravano vine;yard is just west of
Highway 101 near Hopland whereas Elizabeth Vineyard is located high
above the floor of Redwood Valley,
just north of Ukiah. This entire
lot of Cabernet Sauvignon produced only 247 cases.
Production notes:
The grapes are picked almost a month apart, the Hopland grapes ripening
earlier in mid September. Both lots were destemmed, not
crushed, and fermented
in open 500 gallon vats. The must was punched down by hand at 4-hour
intervals and pressed after fermenting for 12 days. Malolactic
fermentation completed by the following Spring. The wine matured in
a combination new French Oak barrels and neutral American Oak
barrels.
Winemaker notes:
The Elizabeth lot contributes cassis and cherriy aromas whereas
the Ravano wine adds structure. Together, the blend seemed to
have better balance than the individual components
